This is one of two Museums run by the Albany Historical Society (the other is the Patrick Taylor Cottage Museum). The Albany Convict Gaol Museum consists of a complex of men’s cell blocks and some warder’s quarters built in 1852, women’s cells, the Great Hall and brick warder’s quarters of circa 1872-1875. The Gaol Museum has been extensively restored and contains displays appropriate to its various sections. Booked guided tours and night tours are available. Souvenirs, postcards and books of historical interest are for sale. Open 10am to 4pm daily. Closed Christmas Day and Good Friday and at 1pm on Anzac Day. Admission: $4 for adults; $2.50 concession; $2.50 for a child (under 6 free); and $10.00 for a family. |
